How to lace a Steenbeck

Steenbecks are becoming a bit of a rare bird these days, and those who can repair them are even rarer! As you know from our first blog post, we recently purchased a 2K digitising Steenbeck scanner, which to all intents and purposes works in exactly the same way as our old Telecine ones – it just produces a better quality file. In this film we take you through how to lace up a 16mm film through the picture and optical sound gate.

Tip to remember: Make sure you only run optical sound through the optical gate. If you mistakenly run a combined magnetic film through the same gate, it will wipe the information off it. Make sure you turn the sound head onto the Mag Track setting if you have a combined mag track, as seen in the picture…
